Lake Welch Experience

July 5, 2007. No definite plans on where to spend the day. Joey took a day off today to extend his "July 4th" holiday. At around 10am, we just packed into the SUV, turned on the navigation system and tried to look for a not-so-far attraction that will pique our interest. Not a single destination excited us. Then Joey suggested we try out Lake Welch in NY. We've set foot on this place last year when Rene, Augs, Noel, Raz and Jun visited us
here and we were trying to find Woodbury Commons. Why we ended up here is another story altogether.

The GPS didn't "locate" Lake Welch; so just armed with the knowledge that the place is located on Exit 16 of the Palisades Interstate Parkway -- the Sebastians drove off.

We almost missed the exit because it's located in the left side of the rode instead of the usual right exits. It's about 30 minutes drive from our place but it's worth the trip. Entrance is $7 per vehicle. There were no more than 50 people in the area because a) it's only 1030am when we arrived and b) because it's a work day. The man-made lake consists of about half-mile-long sandy beach in the Harriman State Park. The sand is soft on the feet and is perfect for sand castle building. There are designated picnic areas with barbecue grills provided.
Although the breeze was cold that day that didn't stop Juwan, Jin, Jaira and Joey from enjoying this new get-away.
